Take Back Your Guns, Protesting Women Tell Kogi Governor
The protest by Ihima women against the renewed political violence in Ebira land by Kogi APC has entered day two.
The protesters are calling on Governor Yahaya Bello to order his appointees to retrieve guns distributed to their sons.
The protest, which started on Saturday lasted four hours, with the aggrieved women visiting the house of political leaders in the land, warning them to return the guns they distributed to their sons to kill themselves and cause confusion in the land.
The women alleged that Okehi local government Administrator, Abdulraheem Ohiare and Commissioner for water resources, Salami Deedat Ozigi are responsible for the political crises that has claimed the lives of at least two people.
They said more than 30 people have sustained gunshot injury and 15 houses have been burnt in Obeiba axis of Ihima, Okehi LGA.
The aggrieved women vowed to continue the protest until the political leaders retrieve the guns distributed to their sons to cause mayhem.
Speaking on behalf of the women, Abisetu said they cannot sit anymore and watch what has been happening in the last two months to continue, adding that they will continue until Governor Bello does the needful.
She said, “We took it upon ourselves to save our land, we went round Ihima yesterday and visited the houses of all the political leaders sponsoring and distributing guns to our sons, we warn them to retrieve their guns from our children for us to have peace in Ihima.
“Instead of doing the needful, OKehi local government Administrator, Abdulraheem Ohiare went and held meeting to sponsor some women from his own place in Eyika to stage another protest here in Ihima in support of his evil.
“This is why we are out again because the Administrator is not ready to change and give us peace in our own land,” she said.
Abisetu pointed out that they are the mothers of the land and it is their duty to protest their own children from the hand of desperate politicians who want to use them as pawn for their selfish interests.
