A 45-year-old man, Suraju Igbayilola, who stood as surety for an accused person is in trouble.

This is because the accused, Lukman Sodiq has absconded.

Sodiq committed the alleged offence on August 11, 2018, when Igbayilola stood surety for him at Ataoja police station, Osogbo.

However, after his release, Sodiq jumped bail to pervert justice.

When the police could not trace him, Igbayilola was arrested and detained. Igbayilola promised to find the suspect and hand him over to the police.

But all his attempts to locate Sodiq proved abortive. He was again arrested and charged to court.

When the matter came up on Monday at Osogbo Magistrate Court the prosecutor, Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the judge that the accused person was not found, hence the surety was brought to the court.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.A Oloyade, ordered that the accused be kept in police custody and directed the police to produce the accused that jumped bail.

The case was therefore adjourned to February 14, 2019 for hearing.
