The home-based Super Eagles team over the weekend emerged champions of the LMC Super 6 invitational tournament, after beating NPFL side MFM FC 3-2 at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

A brace from star striker Anthony Okpotu and one from his Lobi Stars strike partner, Kingsley Eduwo gave the Eagles a three-goal lead, but MFM put on a brave fight with goals from Jonathan Zikiye and Chuka Uwaga threatened to draw the game into a stalemate.

However, the Eagles held on tight enough to emerge tops at the friendly tournament, which they are using to prepare for the 2018 CHAN tournament which will hold in Morocco.

Nigeria qualified for the 5th African Nations Championship following a 2-1 aggregate win over Benin Republic in August, and will play Rwanda, Equatorial Guinea and Libya in Group C at the finals starting on 13 January.
