Captain Ikechkwu Ezenwa saved a second half penalty kick and that proved vital as the Super Eagles beat Benin Republic 2-0 to qualify for the Africa Nations Championship, CHAN 2018.

Having lost the first leg 1-0 in Cotonou last weekend, the home-based Eagles team needed to do better and they did enough; beating the Squirrels at the Sani Abacha stadium in Kano.

Rabiu Ali, who plays his club football with Kano Pillars, gave the Eagles a first half lead before Lobi Stars’ Kingsley Eduwo headed in the ball to double Nigeria’s lead early into the second half.

With this development, the Nigerian team scaled through 2-1 on aggregate and are now all clear to compete at the CHAN 2018 to be staged in Kenya.

This is the third time Nigeria is qualifying for the tournament created strictly for players playing for their country's respective local league teams.
