DR Congo came from behind to force a stalemate against Nigeria in an international friendly played on Monday.

William Troost-Ekong’s early goal was canceled by Bampunga Paau in the final 15 minutes to end the tie 1-1.

The bad pitch at the Adokie Amesiemaka stadium in Port Harcourt did not help matters as both teams struggled to hold the ball.

However, Nigeria took the lead in the 14th minute when defender William Troost-Ekong took advantage of an opportunity and scored with his left foot, his first national team goal.

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr started Junior Lokosa and Simi Nwankwo, with both debutants giving a good performance, while top players like captain John Obi Mikel, Odion Ighalo and Wilfred Ndidi did not feature.

Lokosa missed a good chance early on when his shot went wide over the bar before Ekong broke the deadlock.

After the break Nigeria continue to struggle with the bad pitch as most of the players played with extreme care and tried to avoid injury.

DR Congo was awarded a penalty in the 76th minute when Ola Aina held down an opponent into the box. Bampunga Paau made no mistake as he drew level for his side.

The Super Eagles will now travel to London for their next friendly game against England at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
