Super Eagles defender, Tryonne Ebuehi has reportedly undergone a successful medical with Portuguese club side, Benfic.

Ebuehi is among the new recruits in the Nigeria national team set-up and even though he has not gotten much playing time in the Green and White jersey, he has shown signs of brilliance.

Dutch football magazine Voetbal International reports that the 22-year-old is set to sign for the reigning Portuguese champions this month, with his contract at Den Haag due to expire in the summer.

As FIFA rules prevent players under age 23 from signing pre-contract agreements, Benfica have moved to secure the defender’s services.

Lisbon-based sports newspaper Record says Ebuehi could return to Holland on loan for the remainder of the season.

That is due to the full-back being keen to keep playing regularly to make sure of a place in Nigeria’s World Cup squad, having played the second half of a 4-2 friendly win over Argentina in November.

This marks his second friendly appearance for the Super Eagles.

Ebuehi was born in the Netherlands and was on the wish list of Championship side, Norwich City; but it seems Benfica has beaten all to the promising defender.
