Former Nigeria Professional Football League club, sunshine star FC of Akure is out of action till further notice.

This misfortune is not their doing but a political interference that has crept into the football team which prompted the announcement of it's dissolution by the state government.

Making the announcement in Akure, the state commissioner for Youths and Sports development, Saka Yusuf hinged the decision on the poor performance of the state- owned football team in the last season.

“It is on record that the team managed to escape relegation last season and ended up in the 18th position out of the 20 teams that participated at the just concluded premier league football season.

“In view of these poor performances, it has become necessary to reposition the team for better performance during the forthcoming season.

"I therefore order all members of the football team, staffs and technical crew to leave the club with immediate effect."

The move which obviously did not go down well with the team and their fans was said to have followed the directive of the state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.

Football enthusiasts across the state adduced the team's poor performance to the crisis that rocked the football club and created unnecessary distraction for the boys.

"What do you expect from a football team that was fragmented, distracted and lost focus when they were supposed to stand in unity and achieve a common ground. They were not organized psychologically and emotionally.

"These guys were affected by political interference and as long as we continue to shy away from that truth, we will never make any headway with our football team even if the government decided to swap them for Chelsea or Arsenal team" said Tosin Ayomide.

The sunshine football club was, earlier in the year, locked up in a heated crisis that led to the sack of the coach, agency chairman and some of the key members of the technical crew.

Accusing fingers have so far been pointed in the direction of the commissioner for Youths and Sport development who was alleged to have introduced sentiment in the choice of coaching crew, players and members of staff of the agency at the expense of competence and excellence.

Sunshine Stars had once represented Nigeria in the CAF Champions League after finishing runners up in the Nigerian league.
