An Afghan official says a suicide bomber has killed one businessman and wounded 2 others outside a restaurant in northern Balkh province.

Spokesman for the provincial police chief, Shir Jan Durani, said the attack occurred on Thursday in the capital Mazari and that it was apparently targeted businessman Abdul Ghani, who was killed.

Deputy provincial police chief, Abdul Razaq Qaderi, said Ghani was a former militant and former governor of Marmul district.

Durani said police are continuing to investigate.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, AP reports.
