Jelili Adenekan, on Friday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving stolen nine cows valued at N750, 000.

Adenekan, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of receiving stolen cows to which he pleaded not guilty.

According to the police, the 49-year-old man received the nine cows from one Mànu Umoru despite knowing that the cows were stolen from the complainant, Alhaji Garba Umoru.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Philip Amusan, told the court that the accused committed the offences between Aug. 14 and Dec. 17, 2018, on Iseyin Road, Moniya, Ibadan.

The counsel to the accused, Mrs Seyi Alabi, urged the court to grant her client bail in the most liberal terms.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs O.Latunji, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Latunji said one of the sureties should be a blood relation of the accused.

The case was adjourned till Feb. 18 for trial.

The offence contravenes Section 427 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000 and Adenekan now faces the challenge of proving to the court that he did not know the cows were stolen.
