South West PDP Secretary Resigns
The South West Zonal Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pegba Otemolu, has resigned his membership of the party.
Otemolu, whose resignation was contained in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ward 8, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, was said to be perfecting arrangement to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Until his resignation, the former zonal scribe was a prominent political associate of the Senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Buruji Kashamu.
A copy of the letter read, “I wish to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“I thank you for the opportunities given to me to serve the party in various capacities and also the cooperation enjoyed during my stay in the party.”
Otemolu’s resignation came few days after the state Publicity Secretary of PDP, Bolaji Adeniji, also resigned his membership of the party.
The exit of both Otemolu and Adeniji appeares to have dealt a big blow to the Adebayo Dayo-led executive of the PDP loyal to Senator Kashamu.
Kashamu and a House of Representatives member, Oladipupo Adebutu, have been locked in a desperate battle over the control of the party structures ahead of 2019 elections.
Findings revealed that the party may suffer further depletion in the run-up to next year’s polls due to lingering litigation and factional squabbles.
Already, three members of the state House of Assembly elected on the platform of the party have indicated their readiness to cross-carpet.
The lawmakers, who appeared at the formal defection of two-time governorship candidate, Gboyega Isiaka, to ADC, last week, include Hon. Jemili Akingbade, Hon. Atanda Oduntan and Hon. Ojo Sewanu representing Imeko-Afon, Egbado North II and Idiroko/Ipokia state constituencies respectively.
The lawmakers had disclosed at the event that they represented other colleagues who are willing to also dump the PDP.
