MC Galaxy and Perruzi are two artistes that are not happy with the outcome of the Soundcity MVP awards, where Burna Boy who won five of the categories on the night.

Peruzzi was nominated for ‘Best New Act’ but lost the category to another talented musician and songwriter, Teni The Entertainer (Teni Makanaki).

Peruzzi while reacting to Teni winning the “Best New Artist” on Saturday, January 5 at the 2018 SoundCity MVP Awards, said that he made more money last year than any other new act in Nigeria, adding that he worked harder than any other new act in 2018.

He wrote in a now-deleted Tweet;

“Personally I’d say I worked the hardest last year than any other new act, the same way I made more money last year than any other new act in the country. There’s a way I see myself, it’s MY race, and there is a way I’m running it. Focus on yours. Facts overhype. It’s really simple.”

Late in 2017, Peruzzi signed to Davido's DMW after making an impression on the superstar with a number of his previous records.

The early success of the DMW's group singles like 'Aje' and 'Mind' in 2018 was largely attributed to Peruzzi's creativity and influence.

Peruzzi earned his first notable recognition as he was nominated in the 'Rookie of the year' at the 2018 Headies, a category where he lost to Teni.

He followed the loss with more hard work by featuring on 2baba's 'Amaka' which blew him into the consciousness of music-loving Nigerians.

Peruzzi followed this up with other solid featured verses, major concert performances and the release of an EP titled ‘Heartbeat’.

For all of Peruzzi's good works, it is hard to separate his success from that of Davido or his DMW team, but in the case of Teni whose success is just tied to her talent,  from Askamanya, Fake Jersey, Case to her last song of the year, Uyo Meyo, there is a progression of her artistry.

Did Peruzzi deserve to win ‘Best New Act’ at the Soundcity MVP awards?

Well... in his words “Na to sing shege this year be that”.
