Recording artist, Sound Sultan is not just interested in basketball alone, he is delving into athletics.

The co-owner of Lagos Islander basketball club could kit up on February 10, 2018 to compete at the third edition of the Lagos City Marathon.

“I am excited to be part of this, and I call on other musical artists to use their social media platforms to promote the 2018 Lagos City Marathon,” he said during a press conference.

Athletics Federation president, Ibrahim Gusau is glad the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon has already been handed the bronze label by the IAAF.

He looks forward to a time when there will be at least six marathon events in various parts of the country each year.

“We will maintain our elite athletes but will go back to grassroots and groom talents,” he added.

Also, Lagos Sports Commissioner, Deji Tinubu said the state will continue to provide an enabling environment for the game to thrive.

“We have seen what has happened over the last two years (editions), it is biggest marathon event in Africa, we have top athletes competing, and it is putting Lagos on the global map.”

Group Managing Director of Access Bank, Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe said they are extremely happy and proud to be a major sponsor of the marathon for the 3rd year running.

He assured that the 2018 edition will be better in terms of logistics and hosting, than the previous two editions.

10km race has been introduced and it is strictly for non-professional Nigerian runners, with two GAC Cars up for winners of the category.
