African philosopher, Professor Sophie Oluwole is dead.

Oluwole was the first female doctorate degree holder in Philosophy in Nigeria.

News of her death was announced on Monday, December 24th.

She was born in 1936 in Igbara-oke, Ondo State.

She studied History, Geography and Philosophy at the University of Lagos.

Popularly referred to as 'Mamalawo', Professor Oluwole, who was 82 at the time of her death, was a senior lecturer at the University of Lagos and the Chief Executive Officer of Centre for African Culture and Development.

She is also an author of several books on philosophy and traditional religion.
