Sokoto Village Attack Puts Many In Mourning
The attack is spreading.
In Sokoto State, it has happened again, barely a month after an earlier attack.
Unspecified number of persons have been killed in villages around Gandi in Rabah Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State.
The attack was carried out by bandits, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
Some villages in the area were razed by the attackers and residents displaced.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, Cordelia Nwewe, said that the Commissioner of Police, Muritala Mani, and the medical personnel from the state had moved to Rabah LGA to assess the situation and ascertain how many people were affected.
Nwewe said further information would be communicated as soon as the Commissioner of Police returned.
On June 12, the command confirmed that eight died in a clash that ensued between bandits and local vigilance members in Isa Local Government Area of the state.
Nwawe told reporters that at least eight persons were killed during the fracas, including an elderly person who the bandits wanted to kidnap.
Nwawe said investigation was ongoing.
