The issue of drug addiction in Nigeria is increasingly needing an antidote.

The sad story of 30-year old Jeo Bukar would leave anyone wondering how safe parents are with children who do drugs. 

He lives in Borno, one of the states in Nigeria with alarming level of restiveness which has also been linked to drug abuse, addiction and Boko Haram.  

Bukar was arrested by the Borno Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCSC) for alleged attempt to kill his farther.

Confirming his arrest on Wednesday the state Commandant of the corps, Abdullahi Ibrahim, said that operatives of the command arrested Bukar on March 1, after he allegedly attacked his farther at Forestry area of Maiduguri.

Ibrahim said that while armed with a machete, the suspect held his father, mother and siblings hostage inside their house and threatened to kill the father.

According to the state commandant, Bukar’s father managed to escape and reported the case to the command.

Men of the command who were deployed to the scene then rescued the victims and apprehended the suspect.

The Commandant further stated that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was a drug addict.

“He will be transferred to a rehabilitation centre.

“Upon interrogation, we established that the suspect was into narcotic substances and attempted to kill his father on allegation that the father did not care about his well being,” he said.
