They valued their son at 8,000 naira only. He was not even aware he had been sold by his parents until they defaulted in paying up.

He only realised after the creditors came calling.

Police officials in Lagos State rescued the teenager just as he was being taken away by his new owners.

The 15 year old boy identified simply as Samuel, was used as a collateral after his parents borrowed money from some unidentified group who demanded that the sum be paid in cash or kind.

The police have arrested the victim’s parents and others alleged to have been involved in the alleged sale.

The are now at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

Samuel’s parents ran into some financial crisis after his mother became ill and his step-father lost his job.

The family was said to have given him to a Lagos trader identified as Iya Meta and collected 8,000 Naira for him to work as a servant for 60 days.

The accused are expected to be charged to court on Wednesday.
