What size of fat have you seen before?

The biggest has just been found in Britain.

And its mere size can freak you out.

It is as big as 3 football fields put together.

The ‘fatbergs’ was found blocking an ancient sewage in East-London.

“It’s a total monster and taking a lot of manpower and machinery to remove,” said Thames Water’s head of waste networks, Matt Rimmer. “It’s one of the largest we’ve ever seen,” Rimmer added.

The fat is now a rock-solid mass of wet wipes, nappies, fat and oil, weighing as much as 10 double-decker buses. That is massive. That could be compared to 20 BRT buses.

Work in Whitechapel to remove the blockage started this week and involves an eight-strong crew using jet hoses to break up the mass before sucking it out with a tanker.

“It’s basically like trying to break up concrete. It’s frustrating as these situations are totally avoidable and caused by fat, oil and grease being washed down sinks and wipes flushed down the loo,” said Rimmer.

This is not the first time “fatbergs” are being found in the city, but this one is absolutely humongous.

Four years ago a similar but smaller fatberg was found in a sewer in Kingston, southwest of London.

This findings, however, leave us with a visible and likely damage excess intake of fatty food will do to the blood vessel. Reducing tans fat and other fat found in oil we use in cooking will help reduce such clogs.
