Emmanuel Tsamdu, the Deputy Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, has been impeached.

In a rare sitting on Saturday, December 29th, the Assembly also sacked the Majority Leader, Hassan Mamman Barguma, Deputy Majority Leader, Abubakar Isa, and Deputy Chief Whip, Abdullahi Nyapak.

Consequently, Lumsabani Dilli is now the Deputy Speaker, while Hayatu Mohammed Atiku was elected Majority Leader.

Others elected as Principal Officers were Safiyanu Aminu Aliyu, as Deputy Chief Whip, and Sani Shehu, as Deputy Majority Leader.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Kabiru Mijinyawa, confirmed the development.

However, embattled Tsamdu has rejected his impeachment, saying that “13 people cannot impeach me.”

The Adamawa State Assembly is made up of 25 members, meaning that those who carried out the impeachment were not up to two-third of the Assembly.

It was still unclear by press time why the impeachment was effected and why it should be on a Saturday.
