Taiwo, who suffered an ankle strain and had bruises on some parts of his body, said a mother had to fling her baby into the gutter when the car was reversing speedily towards her.

“The woman who sells apple at the road side, was holding her baby before the car rammed into her. Luckily, she was able to fling the baby away before the incident. She was knocked down while her baby landed in the gutter,” he said.

The baby, who was later picked up, sustained minor bruises and was rushed to hospital.

An eye witness said the cause of the accident remains unclear.

He said, “We don’t whether the driver who also sustained injuries, was a learner or his brakes failed.”

It was gathered that the victims were taken to a nearby hospital while officials of the Nigeria Police Force were also at the scene to prevent break down of law and order by other aggrieved traders.
