The minimum punishment for rape in Nigeria is seven years imprisonment.

But a 25-year-old farmer, Wundetenan Juna, got three years for the evil act.

Even though he committed the crime against an eight-year-old girl, an Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Jos thought three years would change him.

After all, Juna had pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of rape and begged the court for leniency.

Upper Area Court judge Yahaya Mohammed, said that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to others who might want to engage in similar acts. Like seriously?!

But one wonders if that would ever happen when convicted rapists seem to be escaping with mild punishments.
