Joel Obi is widely seen as one of the players capable of 'gatecrashing' the Super Eagles team to Russia and he is pulling his weight despite his incessant injury nightmares.

On Sunday, Obi scored Torino’s lone goal as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo.

The former Inter Milan midfielder increased his tally to three goals in 13 league appearances this season as Walter Mazzarri’s men grabbed a crucial point to ensure they remain in the top half of the Serie A table.

With the solitary point earned from Sunday's Serie A contest, Obi and his teammates have moved to the ninth spot in the Italian top-flight table with 29 points from 21 games.

They will be playing at home in their next league outing on January 28 against Benevento at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
