The court had no option than to sentence Seun Ogunmodede since he pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of criminal assault and attempted rape.

He probably had no place to hide and felt admittance would help him escape maximum punishment, but then he still gets to cool his heels in prison for the next three years.

An Ile- Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun state gave the ruling on Friday without an option of fine.

The 35-year-old man ambushed a woman, grabbed and attempted to rape her while going to farm.

Police Prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi told the court that Ogunmodede assaulted one Adenike Olayinka, and injured her finger with a cutlass in an attempt to overpower and rape her.

According to him, the complainant was going to her farm when Ogunmodede grabbed her from the back.

“The complainant struggled with the accused and in the process, she was injured.”

“The accused took away her bag containing a Holy Bible, N1,500, a mobile phone and a scarf,” Osanyintuyi said.

The police got to know about the matter on the same day, January 17, when the woman went to “A” Division Police Station, Moore, Ile-Ife, at 3.50pm to lodge the complaint.
