ECOWAS member states have their hands full as their leaders meet to resolve socio-economic challenges.

To combat security and immigration shortfalls, the regional body needs to improve on the way they share information.

This is one of the reasons the Nigeria Immigration Service is hosting Heads of ECOWAS Immigration in Abuja, Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory.

Recommendations from the meeting are expected to enhance peace and stability in the region.

In 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari hosted the Extraordinary Summit of the Economic Community of West African States Authority of Heads of State and Government to mark its 40th Anniversary.

However, this year’s meeting intends to focus on security challenges in ECOWAS countries, unemployment and rights of residents.

Gathered at the meeting are diplomats, top immigration officials, drawn from different countries.

Also in attendance are Nigeria’s ministers, service chiefs, and security officials.
