Muhammed Mustapha (19) broke into Redeemed Christian Church, Byazhin, Kubwa, Abuja and stole ‎one generator valued at 35,000 Naira and one amplifier valued at 46,000 Naira.

He also stole one standing fan valued at 12,000 Naira, one speaker valued at 70,000 Naira and two microphones valued at 31,000 Naira , totalling 194,000 Naira.

‎Pastor Tom Oyikpa of Kubwa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on December 14, 2017.

The prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, told a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court in Federal Capital Territory on Thursday that all the said items were later recovered from Mustapha.

With no place to hide, all he had to do was beg for leniency and when he appeared in court, he pleaded guilty to ‎charges of criminal trespass, house breaking and theft.

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment.

However, the judge, Mohammed Marafa, who sentenced Mustapha, gave him an option of 30,000 Naira fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.

Is the 30,000 Naira fine enough to make Muhammed stop stealing? The judge must know better.
