Auwal Muazu pretended to be a worshipper and entered into the National Forum Mosque on April 27 and stole a copy of Quran.

He also stole a pair of shoes belonging to a worshiper, but he was arrested.

Hadiyatullahi Abdulgani of National Forum headquarter Utako Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on the same day.

The police recovered the stolen items from Muazu during investigations and this was how he landed before a Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Friday on a count charge of theft.

He immediately pleaded guilty to the crime and this seemed to please the Judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, who then decided to give him a “light punishment” because he did not waste the court’s time.

He ordered that Muazu be given six strokes of cane and warned him to shun crime and become a good citizen.

He said that he hoped the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
