A mobile application has been launched to enable Nigerians get updates on the activities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and how to register.

Getregistered Naija Mobile App by Election Monitor, a civil society organisation, was launched in Abuja on Friday.

The National Coordinator of the Election Monitor, Abiodun Ajijola, believes the app will bridge the communication gap between INEC and Nigerians.

According to Ajijola, it was discovered that there were a lot of people that wanted to register but lacked knowledge on registration areas, “when and how to register”.

"The app will encourage more Nigerians to get registered by providing quality and useful information to facilitate the CRV process,” he said.

The electoral body gave a breakdown of the number of persons that it had registered in the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CRV).

So far, INEC has registered 1.41 million voters, the Chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, told a gathering at the launch of the Getregistered Naija Mobile App.

The commission has also distributed 54,395 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to registered voters across Nigeria in the ongoing exercise.

The commission targets to register 20 million voters at the end of next quarter.
