18-year-old Abdulrahman Yau, obviously not satisfied with just being a scavenger, decided to make extra cash from theft.

He was caught snatching a handbag after the owner raised an alarm along Jabi Airport Junction.

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja on Monday ordered that Abdulraman will be given six strokes for his crime.

The judge, Abubakar Sadiq gave the order after Yau, of no fixed address pleaded guilty to a count of theft begged for leniency and was convicted.

The prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah told the court that Patience Olinya of Gwagwa village Abuja, reported the case at Life Camp Police Station on May 3.

Zannah told the court that the convict committed the offence on the same date at about 5.30 p.m.

He said the handbag contained the complainant’s cell phone, Bible and other valuable items.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation and interrogation, the convict admitted to have committed the offence.
