The leader of the Nigerian parliament, Bukola Saraki surprised his supporters on Wednesday as he was absent at a prayer session hosted in his honour.

The governor of Kwara State, Abdulfattah Ahmed, was also conspicuously absent at the prayer session organised by political associates and Saraki's supporters to mark his 56th birthday.

Eminent citizens, including the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Ali Ahmad, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Razak Atunwa, and political associates all attended the event.

Saraki was not on ground due to the 2019 budget presentation to the joint session of the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ahmed was said to have been engaged in the presentation of staff of office to the newly promoted second class traditional rulers in the state.

The Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheik Mohammad Salihu  led other clerics at the famous Charity House, Iloffa Road, GRA, Ilorin, where the prayer was held.

In his sermon, the Grand Mukadam of Ilorin, Ustaz Suleiman Dan-Borno, admonished Saraki to rely solely on Almighty God whenever he was confronted with any challenge. He said recent happenings clearly showed that God was with him.

The cleric noted that the Senate President would always receive divine guidance and protection as long as he stood firm in his welfare schemes, adding that whoever plotted against him would not succeed.

Dan-Borno urged Saraki to continue sustaining the path and legacies bequeathed to him by his late father, Dr Olusola Saraki.
