The wife of the President, Aisha Buhari has departed Abuja for Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Aisha will be joining millions of Muslims to participate in this year’s hajj pilgrimage.

Her spokeswoman, Zaynab Ikaz- Kassim said via Twitter, “This Afternoon H.E Mrs. @aishambuhari left Abuja for Mecca, Saudi Arabia to join millions of Muslims in performing this year’s Hajj.”

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki will spend the period of the pilgrimage to pray for the unity, stability and development of Nigeria. Also on his list of prayer requests is the president's health. 

This was confirmed on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Saraki, Yusuph Olaniyonu.

At least 1.705 million pilgrims, which include over 91,000 Nigerians, have arrived the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform this year’s Hajj, according to Statistics released by the Directorate General of Passports.

About 1.602 million pilgrims came by air, 87,685 by land and 14,835 by sea.
