Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah has been shortlisted alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the best forward award in last season's Champions League.

Salah scored 11 goals to help his side reach the UEFA Champions League final where they lost 3-1 to Real Madrid.

The Egypt international is up for the award alongside Cristiano Ronaldo - who left Madrid for Juventus earlier in the summer - and Barcelona's Lionel Messi.

In the best midfielder category, Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne will slog it out against Real Madrid pair Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

New Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker could also be named as the Champions League's best goalkeeper for his performances at former club Roma but the Brazilian will need to see off Madrid's Keylor Navas and Gianluigi Buffon - who played for Juventus but is now at Paris St Germain.

One Real Madrid player will win the best defender award after Marcelo, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane were all nominated.

Winners will be announced during the draw for this season's group stage on August 30.
