Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will sadly not be available for England selection when the Three Lions meet Nigeria’s Super Eagles in an international friendly on June 2 in Wembley.

The England international will also miss out on the 2018 FIFA World Cup following an injury he suffered in Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League first leg match against Roma on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old midfielder was taken off on a stretcher in the 15th minute of Tuesday's match at Anfield after challenging Aleksandar Kolarov.

A scan on Wednesday revealed a knee ligament injury, with no sooner time to return.

"Absolutely devastated to have picked up this injury at such a crucial time," said Oxlade-Chamberlain.

His club, Liverpool confirmed in a statement that the player has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

"The extent of the injury means Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to miss the remainder of the campaign for Liverpool, as well as the World Cup in Russia with England,".

"Oxlade-Chamberlain will now begin a rehabilitation programme to enable him to reach full fitness again as soon as possible, returning to action next season."
