A sad event has occurred along Kaduna-Abuja highway. 

Passengers in private and commercial vehicles returning to Abuja from Kaduna have been killed while some others were abducted by kidnappers.

At least four of them were killed, the Kaduna State Police Command said. 

The Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, who confirmed the attack on television, said the incident happened on Sunday.

He sympathised with the affected families and residents, assuring them that the police is on the trail of the armed bandits.

According to an eye witness, the attack occurred around 6:00p.m. local time near Gidan Busa village, located between Jere and Kateri communities, along the expressway.

The bandits mounted a road block, stopped motorists and started shot sporadically, he explained.

It appears attacks are returning to the highway after several of such incident were witnessed in 2017.

Security operatives had few days ago conducted search operations for arms at Kuriga village.

There are also other military operations that have been launched in some states in Nigeria's northwest to weed out armed gangs.
