SAD! 18 Persons Confirmed Dead In Borno Multiple Bomb Blast
A sad news is coming from Borno State, days after the military said the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, is running for his dear life in an attire of a woman.
Again, the incident highlights the need for people to be vigilant despite the blow the military said it dealt the sect members.
At least 18 persons have been confirmed dead with 22 others injured in multiple Bomb blasts that occured on Friday.
The Police Commissioner in Borno, Mr Damian Chukwu, confirmed the number of dead persons on Saturday.
Chukwu said a male and two female suicide bombers detonated improvised explosive devices strapped to their bodies at the Kasuwar Kifi (a market) in Konduga.
He explained that the injured persons were referred to the Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.
The commissioner added that normalcy had, however, been restored to the area.
However, the National Emergency Management Emergency (NEMA) zonal coordinator, Bashir Garza, put the death toll at 17 and 51 injured.
Again, the figures seems to be higher than what the police and NEMA had released, as the News Agency of Nigeria reports that it gathered from a source that no fewer than 22 persons were killed and 28 others injured in the suicide bombing.
It further quoted a witness, Idrissa Bana, as saying that the three suicide bombers simultaneously detonated the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on their bodies in the crowded market.
Bana said that the explosives killed 22 persons and 28 others sustained injuries.
“There were a lot of people doing last minute shopping when the suicide bombers hit the market,” he said.
A competent security source confirmed the incident, adding that at the moment the identity of the suicide bombers and exact number of casualties could not be ascertain for now.
Boko Haram, pushing for an Islamic State in the northeast, has abandoned the campaign amidst heightened counter-terrorism operations and resort to attacking soft targets.
