Twenty years after winning the World Cup on home soil, the French national team are looking good to conquer the world again as they have booked their place in the semi final at the ongoing Mundial in Russia.

France beat Uruguay 2-0 in the first quarter final match in Russia with the duo of Raphael Varane and Antoine Griezmann getting the goals for Les Bleu.

Defensively resilient throughout their run to the last eight, Uruguay who were left in tears after 90 minutes of action uncharacteristically gave away a couple of sloppy goals either side of half time.

Varane got ahead of his man to open the scoring with a cool header, before Fernando Muslera allowed Greizmann's long-range shot to inexplicably squirm through his grasp.

France, finalists of at the European Championship two years ago, will now face either Belgium or Brazil for a place in the July 15 final.
