Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick as Portugal and Spain played out a 3-3 draw in their opening game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Diego Costa’s brace, twice from behind, was not enough to see Spain secure all three points against a Ronaldo inspired Portugal side.

Ronaldo opened scoring as early as the 4th minute when he converted from the spot after he was brought down Nacho Fernandez in the danger area.

20 minutes later, Diego Costa drew level for Spain, but Ronaldo’s well-taken shot was good enough to put Portugal in the lead going into half time.

After the break, Costa again put Spain on level when he finished off a pass in the 55th minute.

Spain kept the pressure and three minutes later, Nacho Fernandez put his side ahead, thanks to a great long-distance shot.

Ronaldo completed his hat trick when his 88th minute freekick was overlooked by Spain goalkeeper David De Gea.

After first round of matches, Iran now tops Group B, while Morocco stays bottom.
