The Super Eagles of Nigeria are now a team top sides and players across the world are willing to test their might against.

The three-time Africa champions are already billed to take on Lionel Messi and his Argentina teammates in a high-profile friendly next month in Russia.

Reports suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo is also open to leading his Portugal teammates against Nigeria.

According to former Nigeria international, Adokiye Amiesimaka who was part of a Rivers State government delegation that recently went on guarded tour of Real Madrid facilities in Spain, Ronaldo is more than ready to face the Super Eagles.


Amiesimaka in a radio interview confirmed Ronaldo’s disposition to playing against Nigeria.

He said: “We had the opportunity of meeting Ronaldo and he also had a great pleasure meeting us. He was happy. He expressed himself saying Nigeria is a great football nation he will want to play against.

“He made it known that he knew we were the first Africa nation to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. He said he will be looking forward to meet Nigeria in Russia”.

There is no previous meeting between Nigeria and Portugal at Grade A level.

The two teams have only met at the under 20 level in Saudi Arabia in 1989.

Portugal defeated Nigeria 1-0 at the group stage and later 2-0 in the final match.
