Still hurting over the manner, the Super Eagles were edged out by their Argentine counterparts, it was not surprising that many were rooting for Le Blues ahead of Lionel Messi and his teammates.

As it would turn out, Messi’s adventure at the World Cup has finally been ended despite escaping against Nigeria in Argentina’s final group game.

While Messi was largely kept quiet on Saturday, French youngster, Kylian Mbappe stole the show as France recorded a thrilling 4-3 victory over Argentina in Saturday's last-16 clash in Kazan.

Mbappe with his stunning burst of pace earned a penalty for France in the early stages before a quick-fire double from the PSG forward after the break put his team in control.

Antoine Griezmann and Benjamin Pavard - in some style - also netted for France as goals from Angel Di Maria, Gabriel Mercado and Sergio Aguero proved in vain.

With France proceeding into the quarter finals, they will face either Portugal or Uruguay.

For Argentina, they will be catching the next flight to Buenos Aires.
