Leicester City forward Ahmed Musa has thanked Nigerians for their support of the Super Eagles during their time at the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The Super Eagles were counted as one of the favourites to progress to the round of 16 but lost two of three games to bow out of the tournament in the group stages.

Musa who scored two goals against Iceland in the second group game to give Nigeria some hope of progressing has thanked fans on his Instagram page for the support and the opportunity to play with the best in football globally.

“Thank you all for your support through this journey. I thank God for the opportunity to represent my country and compete against the best. Although we were not victorious, we fought to the very end.

“As you all are disappointed so are we but we will use this as motivation to come back stronger, he promised.

“We are Naija and we would make you proud, he continued.

The Super Eagles finished in third place, after amassing three out of a possible nine, behind Croatia and Argentina who move on to the next stage of the competition.

The Eagles will return to the country on Friday.
