The South-West Rugby Union Men’s League will kick off this Saturday, April 15 at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island from 10am to 6pm.

Friends of Rugby the body handling the league on Thursday confirmed the start date for the 2017 season saying innovations from last year’s edition will be retained.

Lagos Rugby Club, "The Oldest Rugby Club in Lagos" gained promotion to Premier Division after finishing top of Division two last year.

They will face stiff competition from defending champions; Cowrie Rugby Club, runners up; Racing Rugby Club and the dark horses; Police Rugby Club.

"We are very glad to be in the premier division this year; we will do our very best to stay there. It was due to our determination last season. Obviously, it will be tough but we'll take the bull by the horn and do what it takes to be successful this season," Mohammed Salisu; Captain of Lagos Rugby Club declared.

Lagos Dragons are back in the contention in Division two this season after a long spell away from competitive rugby due to disciplinary sanctions meted out to them in 2015. the league which is being organized by Friends of Rugby will be contested by eight Lagos based teams.

The League will be played between April and July. There will be a slight break during the Africa Bronze Cup in May and another break during Ramadan fast in June.
