Rivers Youths Protest Alleged Killings By Army
Youths in Abonnema in Akuku-Toru local government area of Rivers State have taken to the streets to protest the alleged killings of youths by the men of the 130 battalions of the Nigerian Army.
The youths said the activities of he army have resulted in many deaths, asking the army to stop the killings or face reprisals.
The latest of such killings reportedly involved as a father of two children.
He was allegedly shot thrice when the army invaded a relaxation spot in the area a week ago.
The army gave no reasons for the shooting. However, the man died while being taken to the University Of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital Choba.
The protesters marched to the headquarters of the Akuku-Toru Local Government where they met with the local government chairman, Rowland Sekibo.
Sekibo, however, promised to write relevant authorities who would wade into the matter.
He also urged the youths not to take laws into their hands but allow a peaceful resolution of their concerns.
