Akande is out for the season and Rivers United fans are extremely sad.

He suffered a nasty injury over the weekend in the Nigeria Professional Football League clash against Wikki Tourists.

Akande broke his leg break as he unsuccessfully tried to keep out Abubakar Lawal’s effort.

The incident produced a hushed atmosphere inside the Yakubu Gowon stadium, Port Harcourt with some of the United players and members of the coaching staff visibly breaking down in tears.

Despite the sour point, Rivers United held their cool to secure a crucial 3-1 win over the visitors from Bauchi.

Goals from Guy Kuemian, Emeka Ogbugh and Chiwendu Ali proved decisive for the Port-Harcourt team as they overpowered Wikki Tourists.

The win moved United to 14th place on the NPFL standings with 40 points from 29 matches while the Tourists who have played two games more now occupy 15th place, also on 40 points.
