Rivers Drama! Over 20 Dead Cows Smuggled From The North
Over 20 Northern youths who allegedly smuggled over 50 cows into Rivers state have been arrested.
27 of the cows were found dead when the truck bringing them from the north was intercepted.
The truck with registration number (RGM 104 XA), was coming from Adamawa through Okigwe routes to Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The truck was intercepted by vigilante group following a tip-off.
The police were later called and arrested the culprits who were said to be Northern youths.
The Executive Chairman, Ikwerre Local council area, Samuel Nwanosike reportedly asked medical officers in the Health Care Dept to join forces with the police for proper investigation.
The ugly development have infused palpable fear on the residents of the area.
Many residents believed the development has a political undertone and therefore called on the government not to sweep the investigation under the carpet.
Nwanosike told Bounce News that investigation is ongoing to unrivaled the cause of death. He stated that it is too early to draw conclusion on the matter.
The incident comes days after Hausa traders in Port-Harcourt, the state capital, complained about series of “wicked and damaging text messages” making the rounds to the effect that Hausa traders planned to poison suya, carrots and green peas to kill Christians.
Consequently, fun seekers, who usually visit drinking joints and suya spots in the city, kept their distance.
It was gathered that authors of the text messages were some South-South indigenes that fled from the fighting in Jos, Plateau State, and are taking refuge with relatives in Port Harcourt.
