REVEALED: PDP Lied About Defectors
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lied about some of its members defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.
On Tuesday, the PDP through its Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani denied that some of its members defected to the APC in Oshodi/Isolo local government.
Gani in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria described the media report on the defection of 1,500 PDP members to the APC in the state as mere propaganda.
“It is laughable to hear that 1,500 PDP members decamped to APC in Oshodi, this is outrageous propaganda.
“I am from Oshodi-Isolo, the area remains the strongest nest of PDP, we won all elective offices in the 2015 general elections, in spite the presence of the APC state chairman in the area,’’ he said.
However,Bounce News can categorically confirm that the statement credited to Gani was an outright lie.
The defection of the PDP members was highly celebrated by the chieftains of the APC in the area.
Among those who defected was a former House of Assembly aspirant under the PDP, Fola Mosaku.
Four candidates of the party in the July 22 local government election in the state also defected.
The four councillorship candidates are Ayodeji Ogungbayibi from Mafoluku ward; Yusuf Babatunde from Ewu ward, Prince Omenu from Sogunle ward and Olalere Biola alias Chacha from Afariogun ward.
Ogungbayibi is from the same ward with Gani.
The defectors were received on Friday by Olusola Sokunle, representing Oshodi-Isolo constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly and the APC Chairman in the LGA, Olamide Kasali at the party's LGA meeting in Oshodi.
Sokunle, who was elected into the Assembly on the platform of PDP, had in February, alongside six other lawmakers, defected to the ruling party on the floor of the House.
It was gathered that the PDP federal lawmaker in the constituency, Mutiu Shadimu, had also wanted to defect but backtracked after he discovered he was not going to be giving the APC ticket in 2019 to seek reelection.
The national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu is said to have anointed a particular candidate for the position in 2019.
Findings also indicated that the chieftains of the PDP in the council area have been desperate to deceive the party leadership into believing that they are working hard to ensure PDP’s victory, thereby paving way for an avenue to get money to enable them make ends meet.
In reaction to Gani’s claim, Kasali challenged him to go public and say Mosaku and others who decamped are still members of the PDP.
Kasali told Bounce News that Gani’s statement was a ploy to make the state and national PDP believe that they were on ground in the council area.
Attempts to get Gani’s reaction was unsuccessful. He promised to call back when Bounce News' correspondent contacted him but that promise was not fulfilled as at the time of filing this report.
