The race to make it to the World Cup with the Super Eagles is getting fiercer by the day and it has been revealed that two players presently in the 30-man provisional squad have dropped out of contention.

The 'unlucky duo' as reported by SCORENigeria are goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye and Stephen Eze.

“Ajiboye and Stephen Eze were called up separately by the coach, who told them he won’t be taking them to the World Cup,” the football portal quoted one of the team officials as saying.

“Eze, for one, met with the coach after lunch to be told he is not going to the World Cup.”

With the exit of Ajiboye, the three goalkeepers guaranteed for the World Cup are Francis Uzoho, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi.

Rohr has said he will drop five players before the squad fly out to England from Abuja on Wednesday.

The coach will then drop two more players after the England game to have a final squad of 23 players for Russia 2018.
