After five years of heart breaks, Real Madrid are champions of Spain again as they put up a splendid display away from home to beat Malaga 2-0 and effectively claim the 2016/17 La Liga title

Cristiano Ronaldo scored inside two minutes while Karin Benzema was on target in the second half to give Los Blancos more than the required points to see then finish above their rivals Barcelona and win their 33rd La Liga title.

It is their first since the 2011-12 campaign under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho.

After 38 games, Real Madrid secured 93 points while Barcelona could only muster 90 points from the same number of games.

Though Barcelona beat Eibar 4-2 in the other game they could not deny Zidane his first La Liga title as a coach.

Real Madrid will have a chance to add to their haul this season when they defend their title as European champions against Juventus in the Champions League final on June 3.
