RAPE: Las Vegas Police Reopen Ronaldo Investigation
The days ahead could be tortuous for Portuguese footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo following the confirmation by the Las Vegas police that they have reopened a case from 2009 concerning an allegation of sexual assault against the Juventus star.
A woman in Las Vegas had made a complaint of rape against an un-named assailant in 2009.
She subsequently confirmed the person she alleges raped her was the soccer star - who was holidaying in Las Vegas at the time.
Ronaldo has yet to respond to this development but in an Instagram, video posted on Sunday after newspaper reports on the case were published he described the case as "Fake. Fake news."
He said "It's normal. They want to be famous, to say my name. But it is part of the job. I am a happy man and all good."
Ronaldo's legal team had threatened to sue the publishers of the original article saying, "It violates the personal rights of our client Cristiano Ronaldo in an exceptionally serious way."
However, the lawyer representing the woman claiming Ronaldo raped her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009 has said the accusation is not "fake news."
While Ronaldo has enough things to worry about on the pitch, he now has an additional headache with this rape allegations.
