Protests, Pandemonium In Akure As NSCDC Kill 2 Siblings
Akure, the Ondo state capital is in turmoil as it's existing peace has been snatched away by irate Protestants.
Pandemonium, protest and burn-fire were what was left of the sunshine city on Wednesday, August 29th following the death of two siblings who were allegedly killed by the Nigerian Security And Civil Defence Corpse (NSCDC).
According to an eyewitness, trouble erupted when the patrol van of the NSCDC allegedly knocked down a motorcyclist conveying two passengers on Tuesday night in Ondo town.
The okada rider was said to have been killed instantly while his two passengers who were critically injured were rushed to the specialist hospital.
Protesting the death of their colleague in Akure on Wednesday, the okada riders were said to have created a massive brick wall of human and vehicular logjam in the major road while the corpse of their colleague was taken to the Defence office.
The protest was said to have turned awry when one of the officers shot into the crowd of protesters and killed the sister of the deceased instantly.
"It was when they started attacking us, throwing stones at us in our office that one of our men shot into the air to disperse the crowd. It was not a deliberate attempt to kill any of them.
"The officer that killed the okada rider is from FCT and not from our command," said NSCDC spokesman, Samuel Oladipo.
The deceased have been taken to hospital.
Ondo state police spokeman, Femi Joseph said he could not ascertain what led to the death of the motorcyclist which degenerated into a street protest, but investigation has been launched into the matter.
According to him, the police have since returned normalcy to the state capital.
