Protesters Storm APC Secretariat, Demand Oyegun’s Removal
With just a few days to the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), some aggrieved members of the party on Tuesday staged a mass protest to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The protesters are demanding for the immediate removal of the John Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee (NWC).
The protesters carried placards praising a leading contender for the national chairmanship of the party, Adams Oshiomhole.
One placard read “Oshiomhole is our winner”, another said “Oyegun and co leave our party secretariat now”.
Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo state, has the backing of President Muhammadu Buhari and other key party leaders for the top position.
Oyegun had said he would not seek re-election at the convention.
The protest is coming a day before the meeting of governors elected under the platform of the party.
The governor’s meeting scheduled for Wednesday became necessary following the discovery that some members of the party were working on different agenda, which might lead to either a walkout by the aggrieved members or total parallel National Convention.
