Barely a month to the 2019 general elections, some registered voters in Gombe state are yet to collect their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

They have not collected them, not because they do not want to, but because the process is cumbersome according to the voters.

The voters advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to work out a more effective way of collecting the card so as not to disenfranchise people.

Speaking to Bounce News at a PVC collection center in Malam Kuri Primary School in Pantami Community of Gombe Local Government, Gombe State, Mubarak Abdullahi, who came to collect his PVC at the center said the process of the collection is tiring.

"I spent the whole day on Monday waiting only for me to be told to come back today (Tuesday), it is only one person from INEC that is attending to us here and you can see how we are and we still have a lot of people who are yet to come," he said.

50-year-old Maman Lami who could not withstand the struggle of the PVC collection also said that her only hope was to go home and send her son to come collect the PVC for her, else she will have to wait until after elections to collect it.

For voters who registered at Shongo Idrisa Primary School, the 20 to 40 kilometers journey to go and collect their PVCs in the headquarters of Akko Local Government Area (LGA) is hectic for them.

Sulaiman Isah told Bounce News that he had been going from center to center for the past 2 months yet he hadn't gotten hold of his card; "I even went to INEC's office, but I was told to come back after 1 month, because my card has not been brought to Gombe".

While voters are calling on INEC to ease the process of the PVC collection, the Gombe State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the INEC Alhaji Umar Ibrahim has assured that the commission in the State is working towards making the process easy by going from ward to ward for the PVC distribution.
