The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Sarkin Pawa Division of the Niger State Police Command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Amos Aliyu, has been kidnapped.

Aliyu was abducted with his orderly and four others on Sunday.

The DPO and his men ran into a blockade mounted by the gunmen on their way from Minna to Sarkin Pawa, near Kunbwada community when the incident occurred.

It was gathered that the officers were ordered out of their vehicle, a Peugeot 406 and dragged into the bush while the vehicle was abandoned at the scene of the incident.

Four other passengers in another car were also abducted during the operation.

The gunmen were said to have shot sporadically to scare passersby, in the process, stray bullets hit a trader and a pregnant woman.

The trader was said to have died at the Minna General hospital few hours later, while the expectant woman is recuperating.

It was learnt that the kidnappers have established contact with family members of Aliyu. They have demanded N16 million ransom.
